• We conduct surprise inspections at manufacturing and industrial concerns, canteens, restaurants, major distributors, shops and farms.
• We collect samples of foodstuffs and commodities and analyse them physically, chemically and microbiologically in the laboratory.
• Specially trained mushroom inspectors check mushrooms during the season, both mushrooms offered for sale in shops and privately collected mushrooms.
• Special investigations are performed to ensure soil protection and in relation to environmentally hazardous products.
• In connection with accident precautions, we assess building applications, appraise reports on risk assessments, keep a risk map covering the canton Basel City and supervise trade in chemicals.
• Experts at the Official Food Control Authority of the Canton Basel City supervise water in open-air, indoor and therapeutic swimming pools.
• The Centre of Expertise in Environmental Air Pollution deals with issues on the subject of air quality in indoor areas and asbestos in the domestic arena.
• The office for hazard prevention deals with the coordination of earthquake hazard reduction in the canton and the dangers and risks of new technology.
